Storytime Project

I’m very excited to announce the return of the Storytime Project for Junior Infant Parents.

Story Time supports parents to read to, and with their children at home. Taking part in Story Time is easy and fun. We run Story Time over a six week period. The Story Time programme aims to:

·         Encourage you to read on a regular basis with your child

·         Improve your child’s social and communication skills

·         Increase your child’s language, conversation and thinking skills

We will invite you to an information meeting in Marino Institute of Education on Wednesday October 5th @ 11am. At this meeting we will give you tips and suggest ways to read to, and with your children. At the end of the five weeks we will invite you and the HSCL teacher who are working with your child to a meeting in Marino Institute to give us feedback on your experience. We will also present you with a Certificate acknowledging your participation in Story Time.

Parents who have taken part in Story Time tell us that:

·         Their children’s language, vocabulary and confidence has improved

·         Their children enjoy reading more and have a greater interest in books

·         Their relationship with their children has grown stronger

·         The amount of time watching TV and DVDs before bedtime has reduced.

All of the reading takes place at home and can be done at any time. Last year a number of working parents and parents who had English as second language found the programme really enjoyable and very beneficial.

If you would like to take part or more information, please contact me as soon as possible, as the numbers of spaces are limited.

DNET 2nd Level Campaign

Would you like you child to have the opportunity to attend a local Second level Educate Together school? Currently we do not have a local filter Educate Together Secondary school for our pupils to attend.

We need your help to make this happen!

The Dublin North 2nd Level Campaign are working tirelessly to make this happen and are still looking for parents to fill out an expression of interest forms on their website. (This is not an enrolment form - it is simply a means of demonstrating the level of demand for a school )This is a very important stage of the process and takes only a few minutes.

You can also follow the campaign on Facebook
www.facebook.com/dnet2ndlevel

if you would like to get involved in the campaign contact the team at dnet2ndlevel@gmail.com

Help us spread the word and make this a reality for our children!

UPdate re local scouting group

Over the summer Scouting Ireland were due to make a decision about how to finalise the training for Scout leaders.  Without this training we are not able to proceed with setting up an official Scouts group due to regulation as you may all appreciate. The summer has come to an end and I am very saddened to say that still no decision has been finalised. As a decision has not been made we are not able to proceed with setting up the Scouts group in October as was originally intended. This does not mean that the group will not be set up at all it just wont happen this year.
Myself and the other parents who are working on this are still keen to get things going so we will keep you informed of our progress.

Looking for suggestions!!

If you have any ideas or suggestions about courses/classes that you would like to see available for parents in the school please drop me an email/text as I am getting things up and running over the next few weeks!

Also, if you would like to get involved in school and are able to volunteer/help out in anyway, let me know! We are always on the look out for new helpers!!

Attention all new Infant Parents!

Over the next few weeks all parents will be invited in to meet their class teacher for a whole class meeting, where Jessica and Mel will explain class routines, the structure of the day etc.

However, as many of you are new to the school you may have more general questions relating to the day-to-day activities such as yard time, helping your child settle, what to expect over the next few months etc, that I may be able to help with. With that in mind, I will be holding two ‘meet&greet’ sessions where I will try my best to answer any questions. This will also provide you with an opportunity to get to know some of the new parents in your class.

The same content will be covered in both meetings, so chose the most convenient for you.

Wednesday 7th September @ 8.40am in the Afterschool room

Thursday 8th September @ 7pm in the Afterschool Room (downstairs)

It would be great to see you all there.

Welcome Back everyone!

Welcome back to all  our old and new Belmayners!

I hope you all had  a wonderful Summer and are settling back into school life. The new Junior Infants all seem to be settling in very well and working hard already! We also have some new children in the older classes and you are all very welcome too!

If you are a new parent to our school, check out my earlier posts about what exactly my role is. I look forward to getting to know you all and working with you over the next year.

Over the next few weeks I will be posting about upcoming events and ways that you, the parents, can get involved in school life.

Here are a few dates for you diary already:

  • Yoga for Parents restarts on Tuesday 20th September @ 8.45am  with Magda in the Afterschool Room, €3 per class

  • Parent Support Group will have its first meeting on September 21st @ 7pm in the downstairs afterschool room.
(This is a space where parents support each other and share their experiences and advice about parenting. Everyone is welcome)
